Rockstar Warriors is a program designed to address the mental health needs of hospitalized children and teens in the U.S. with cancer. The majority of the children we support face major stress, cognitive impairment caused by treatment, or anxiety & depression related to living with their illness. Our program, Rockstar Warriors, addresses the challenges of these mental health issues by providing quality guitars and on-line lessons for children and teens with cancer, wishing to learn guitar.
This intervention is designed to promote wellness, manage stress, alleviate pain, express feelings, uplift mood, reduce anxiety & depression, enhance memory, improve cognitive function, and promote physical rehabilitation.
Learning to play a musical instrument provides a peaceful retreat from the pressure and stress related to living with a serious health condition. Therapeutic outcomes of playing music include better communication skills, improved emotional release, and decreased anxiety, depression and agitation.
Playing guitar requires focus, which can help children take their minds off of their illness or the cause of their anxiety or depression. Playing guitar is not only a fun, creative outlet, but it's also an excellent pastime for those hospitalized.
